Beautiful Mańka “Queen of the Suburbs” is a vaudeville play by Konstanty Krumlowski, first staged in Kraków in 1898, which was immensely popular. The prototype for the main character, the beautiful Mańka from Zwierzyniec, was an employee of a tobacco factory at Dolnych Młynów street. The esteemed Krakow sculptor, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Paweł Orłowski, inspired by the story of the heroine of the ‘Queen of the Suburbs’, created her sculpture. The work, in an intriguing contemporary form, will stand in the courtyard of Dolnych Młynów 10, linking the past with the present, expressing the timeless power of art.”
